Rules for the Election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD 2022
These rules stipulate the items required for the election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD 2022.
(1) GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD
The GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD is the Prime Minister's Award given to the most outstanding design among all the GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners of the year. This award is elected by the votes of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD Judging Committee members (hereinafter referred to as "jury members"), GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners (hereinafter referred to as "winners"), and visitors to the "GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2022" held at Tokyo Midtown Design Hub (hereinafter referred to as "general visitors"). It plays a role to symbolize the trend of design and society in that year.
(2) Finalists (Finalists for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD)
Finalists for the year 2022 are elected from the "GOOD DESIGN BEST100" for the year 2022 by the Chairperson of the Judging Committee, the Vice Chairperson of the Judging Committee, the screening unit leader and the Focused Issue director. The winners will be announced at the "GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2022 Press Conference" to be held on October 7th.
(3) Voters for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD
Voters for the election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD are the jury members, winners and general visitors.
When counting the votes, the ratio of general visitors, winners, and jury members will be 1:5:100.
The jury members are not allowed to vote for the finalists that they have been involved in designing or consulting.
(4) GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD Election Procedure
The election of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD will be made according to the following procedure.
4-1. Voting for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD by general visitors
Voting by the general visitors will be conducted at the "GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2022" held at Tokyo Midtown Design Hub from October 7 to October 31. General visitors will be able to select one of the finalists and vote for it.
Voting will be limited to once per person during the exhibition period.
4-2. Finalists' Presentations
Finalists will make a presentation to the jury members and the winners at the Grand Award Election on November 1st.
The order of presentation will be decided by lottery on the day.
Presentation time will be limited to 4 minutes per presentation.
Even if the designer directly involved in the design is a jury member, the jury member cannot be presenter.
4-3. Voting for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD by the jury members and award winners
Jury members and winners will vote after the presentation, and the organizer will display the total result together with the number of votes from general visitors.
4-4. Decision of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD
If the difference in votes between the 1st and 2nd finalist is more than 5% of the total number of votes received, the 1st finalist will be elected as the Grand Award winner.
If the difference in votes between the 1st and 2nd finalist is less than 5% of the total number of votes received, a final vote will be held by the jury members and the winners, and the finalist with the most votes will be elected as the Grand Award winner.
In the event that a decision other than the above is required during the voting, the Chairperson of the Judging Committee will make the decision.
The winner of the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD will receive a certificate and a trophy presented by the Prime Minister after completing the prescribed procedures.
Information regarding the election process of the Grand Award will be published on the GOOD DESIGN AWARD official website.
