Seiichi Saito

Creative Director | Panoramatiks Principal

Born in Kanagawa in 1975, Saito began his career in New York in 2000 after graduating from Columbia University with a Master of Science degree in Advanced Architectural Design (MSAAD). He returned to Japan after being selected as an artist for Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2003. After working as a free-lance designer, he established Rhizomatiks Co., Ltd. (present Abstract Engine Co., Ltd.) in 2006. Leading the internal architecture department Panoramatiks, he is working as a planning and implementation advisor on a number of projects for governments and corporations. He was the Creative Advisor of Expo 2020 Dubai Japan Pavilion and the EXPO Co-creation Program Director for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Jin Kuramoto

Product Designer | Representative Director, JIN KURAMOTO STUDIO Inc.

Born in 1976. After working at a home appliance manufacturer, he established JIN KURAMOTO STUDIO in 2008. With the approach of communicating the project concept and story through a clear formative expression, he has been involved in the design development of various genres, like furniture, home appliances, eyewear, and automobiles. He is also a part-time lecturer at Kanazawa College of Art and Musashino Art University.

Yuko Nagayama

Architect | Executive Director, YUKO NAGAYAMA & ASSOCIATES

Born in 1975 in Tokyo. Completed studies at Showa Women’s University in 1998. 1998–2002, worked at Jun Aoki & Associates. Established Yuko Nagayama & Associates in 2002. Representative works: “Teshima Yokoo House,” “Central Garden – Goddess of The Forest,” ”JINS PARK,” “Japan pavilion for Dubai Expo,” “Tokyu Kabukicho Tower,” est. Awards received include L’Oreal Encouragement Award, JCD Design Award (2005), AR Award (2006), ARCHITECTURAL RECORD Award, Design Vanguard (2012), JIA Young Architect Award (2014), Yamanashi Cultural Prize of Architecture, JCD Design Award (2017) Silver Award, Tokyo Architecture Award (2018) Excellent Award, WAF Division Excellence Award (2022), etc. Plans are currently underway for the TOKYO TORCH project in front of Tokyo Station, the Panasonic Pavilion and the Women's Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai International EXPO.

Tamae Hirokawa

Creative Director / Designer | SOMA DESIGN

Hirokawa established "SOMA DESIGN" in 2006, launched the brand "SOMARTA" at the same time, and participated in the Tokyo Collection. She won the Newcomer Award and the Shiseido Sponsorship Award of the 25th MAINICHI FASHION GRANDPRIX. In addition to a solo exhibition "Tamae Hirokawa - Body Genealogy," she worked on many collaborations with businesses, including the Canon "NEOREAL" exhibition, TOYOTA "iQ×SOMARTA MICROCOSMOS" exhibition, YAMAHA MOTOR DESIGN "02Gen-Taurs," etc. Her 2017 SOMARTA signature item, ”Skin Series,” was made part of the collection at MoMA and drew attention. She won the 2018 WIRED Audi INNOVATION AWARD. Co-developed the podium jacket for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics with ASICS. In the same year, as an invited artist of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, she organized a new festival, "Tamae Hirokawa in BEPPU" together with citizens.

Shigeki Hattori

Designer/Creative Director | Representative Director of graf, Professor at Kyoto university of Art, Department of Infomation Design

Born in Osaka in 1970, Hattori is the creative director and designer of graf, a collective of different industries that started up in 1997. He is involved in design and branding direction for architecture, interior design, and product design. He extracts concepts from design research, and sees the local community and social infrastructure as a part of that area. He aims to design from projects to programs, and from movements to culture.

After working for a sports manufacturer, engaged in product development and brand-building works, he established Studio Galleryworks. Since 2018, he has been a Professor of Product Design at Tama Art University in the Department of Product and Textile Design. He is the project leader of ‘Suteru Design', which aims to build Circular Society. Since 2021, he has been a Research Supervisor for the ACT-X research area of Japan Science and Technology Agency.

Sae Honda

Designer, Jewellery Artist | Lecturer, Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft design, Musashino Art University

After graduating from Musashino Art University, Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design, worked at IDÉE before moving to the Netherlands. Honda completed her study at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2016 and she moved from the Netherlands to Japan, in 2021 where she has been internationally showcasing self-initiated works as well as commissioned work. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Museum Arnhem in the Netherlands. Author of 'EVERYBODY NEEDS A ROCK' and 'Anthropophyta / Artificial Plant Gate' (published by torch press). Lecturing at Musashino Art University, Department of Industrial, Interior and Craft Design.

Catharina Widjaja

  | Chair Permanent Committee for Europe (KADIN) & Chief Executive Officer of Alun Alun Indonesia

She is the CEO of Alun Alun Indonesia, a pioneer retail brand that promotes Indonesian artisan-made products, under the retail group MAP (Mitra Adiperkasa). In recognition of her contribution to the business sector, she was appointed chair of Permanent Committee for Europe at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) 2021-2026. Ms. Widjaja was recognized as Global Trade Ambassador Indonesia by WIT-LA in 2019 and received TOP Leader on CSR Commitment by Business News Indonesia in 2018 and was nominated in the 2017 Telstra Businesswomen Awards. During Indonesia's Presidency at the G20 in 2022 she was also lined up for the G20 Alliance to become an advocate for the Empowerment and Advancement of Women's Economic Representation (G20 EMPOWER) to accelerate the leadership and empowerment of women in the private sector.Ms. widjaja has been the judge for Good design Indonesia since 2021. This year she was the chair of the judging panel.

He won over 200 international awards and was chosen as one of Newsweek's "100 globally recognized small and medium Japanese businesses". Operates a design think tank that supports planning and development from design thinking. Advocated S.S.FB method and Kansei value hexagon graph. In 2020, He established the "Hers Design Fund" to support startups that solve social issues through design investment. He is author of "Textbook for Social Design", "Design Thinking for Behavior", “The Potential of Sensibility Thinking”, and "Bugtori Design".

Akiyama founded STUDIO BYCOLOR in 2013, a design office that effectively utilizes colors and materials. She graduated from the Department of Design Science of the Faculty of Engineering at Chiba University in 2002, and worked for an office furniture manufacturer in Japan until 2012. She has won iF Design Award, German Design Award, DFA Asian Design Gold Award, DIA Top100, Good Design Award and was also selected for LEXUS NEW TAKUMI PJ 2016. She is a part-time lecturer at the Department of Design Science of the Faculty of Engineering at Chiba University and the Department of Engineering and Design of the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Hosei University.

Graduated from Central St. Martins, London. Worked at Panasonic Design Company and PDD Innovations UK before joining IDEO Tokyo as a Design Director for its launch. Later, served as the Strategic Design Director at BCG Digital Ventures before assuming current position. Involved in numerous business creation and design management initiatives. Served as a judge for D&AD, Good Design Award, and various design selections nationwide. Author of the recent book “HELLO, DESIGN: Japanese and Design” (published by Gentosha). Currently the CEO of Wood You Like Company and Chief Design Officer (CDP) of Asahikawa City.

Keita Suzuki

Suzuki is a designer, born in 1982. He founded the Product Design Center in 2012. Influenced by his grandfather, a renown art collector, he has gained big interests in the beauty of Japanese and Asian art and crafts since his childhood. He was later attracted by the field of product design with focus of people’s daily life and activities. Developing the idea of ‘steady innovation’, by which product design is seen as part of a historical time-line, he aims to move it forward with making a beautiful standards both in product and public design.

Makoto Hashikura

Product Designer | CEO, MAKOTO HASHIKURA DESIGN

Hashikura received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science and technology from Keio University. After having worked at a home appliance manufacturer, he joined NAOTO FUKASAWA DESIGN as a senior designer, where he was involved in the design of products across diverse fields including consumer electronics, cars, household goods, furniture and public equipment. In 2018, he established MAKOTO HASHIKURA DESIGN. Basing its activities on product design, the studio carries out integrated creative pursuits transcending the barriers of design across a number of fields including interior design, art direction and corporate design consulting. He is a part-time lecturer at Tama Art University.

Based in Osaka, at the center of projects related to culture, welfare and community, he aims to visualize philosophy and to create new experiences through graphics, space, exhibitions and planning and development. He also works on design through continued dialogues and experiments focusing on “Think Together, Make Together.” He is the author of “One Day Esquisse: Design class for finding ‘a point of view’ in thinking.”

After working in the Design Department of Honda R&D Co., Ltd. he established FEEL GOOD CREATION, the only company in Japan specializing in CMF design. The company provides direction, design, and consulting services for CMF design and worldview creation for a wide range of industries, including automobiles, home appliances, architecture, and interior design. She also focuses on the development of sustainable materials and the concept of a recycling society, utilizing CMF's knowledge and manufacturing network. She is the organizer of CMF TOKYO - SENSE, an activity to revitalize manufacturing in Japan, focusing on materials and processing. Part-time lecturer at Musashino Art University and Nagaoka Institute of Design.

As Designer and Design Director at the Toshiba Design Center, Matsumoto undertook product development and mechanical design, including household appliances, audiovisual equipment, healthcare products, etc. and has received many awards both in Japan and overseas, including the Good Design Gold Award, and iF/Red Dot Design Award Gold Award. Currently, in addition to university administration as Vice President of Joshibi University of Art and Design, she is involved in many collaborative projects with local governments and companies as part of her education, strengthening her ability to identify and solve problems through design. Based on her experience in both business and education, she conceived of the Department of Collaborative Design, which will open in April 2023.

Yoshiizumi has conducted experimental independent research projects that shake up existing frameworks and has presented and been invited to exhibit in museums and design exhibitions in Japan and abroad. These include Milan Design Week, Design Miami, Musée des Arts Decoratifs de Paris, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, M+ Hong Kong, Kyocera Museum of Art Kyoto, and others. Using the results of his research as a starting point, he has materialized diverse projects with various clients to ""create other possibilities."" He was selected as ""Emerging Designers of the Year"" at the Dezeen Awards 2019 (UK), ""Swarovski"" at Design Miami/ Basel 2017 (Switzerland), and ""Swarovski"" at Design Miami/ Basel 2017 (Japan). Three of his works are in the collection of M+ in Hong Kong. He is a visiting professor at Tohoku University of Art & Design. Part-time lecturer at Musashino Art University.

After working as Chief Art Director at Sony Corporation's Creative Center, Kataoka started his own business in 2004. He established the Kataoka Design Studio, and is currently widely involved domestically and overseas in products such as electronics products, furniture, general merchandise, medical equipment, robotics, AI, etc. He received many awards including the Good Design Award, iF Product Design Gold Award, Best of the Best for the Red Dot Design Award, etc. Part-time Lecturer for the Department of Design, Nihon University College of Art. Daisuke Ishii

Creative Director | Head of Creative Center, Sony Group Corporation

Joined Sony in 1992 and heads the Sony’s Design Team as of 2021. Started his career at Sony as an industrial designer and designed products such as Handycam, Walkman®, and AIBO. With working experience in the EU design office, he headed the design team responsible for AI robotics such as the ‘aibo’ entertainment robot, the VISION-S prototype vehicle and ‘Airpeak’, a project for robotic drones, and other new business development projects and created not only products, but also services, brands, and communications comprehensively. Ishii has also served on the 2016/2021 iF Award jury, 2019/2022 DFA Award and 2022-23 Visiting Professor at the Politecnico di Milano.

After working as a designer at manufacturers in Japan and overseas, Miyazawa established &design co., ltd. in 2007. He has won many awards, including the iF Gold Award, red dot design award "best of the best." He is a lecturer at Hosei University Faculty of Engineering and Design, and has also worked as a product design director at NTT DOCOMO, INC. since 2011.

Eisuke Tachikawa

Design Strategist / Evolution Thinking Inventor | Founder, NOSIGNER / President, JIDA

Eisuke Tachikawa is a design strategist, an Associate Professor at Keio University, and the founder of NOSIGNER. In implementing social context—to create a beautiful future with social design, and structure design knowledge—to clarify different ways of thinking and increase innovators, we have continued design from a social perspective to realize various design projects related to social issues. He advocates “Evolutional Creativity,” a new educational method teaching the essence of creativity from the natural phenomenon of biological evolution. Some of his most renowned projects include Tokyo Bousai, PANDAID, and the basic concept of the Japan Pavilion for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. Born in Tokyo. She graduated from the University of Tokyo and received PhD in engineering. After working at Center for Spatial Information Science, the University of Tokyo, she has worked at Tokyo University of Science. Her areas of specialization are urban space analysis and design. Her research interest includes the relationships between public space and public life. She leads the artist group Tokyo Picnic Club and is involved in creative projects for urban public space both internationally and domestically. She also leads Civic Pride Research Group. Her major publications include "Civic Pride" and "Civic Pride 2."

Born in Tokyo in 1971, he graduated from Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, Department of Architecture, and earned a PhD in Engineering. Alongside researching the history of modern Japanese architecture, he is actively engaged in promoting the value of architecture to society. He has been involved in various architectural events such as the "IKE-FES Osaka," "Kyoto Modern Architecture Festival," and the Ginza Sony Park Project since their launch. He has written numerous books including "Yoshisaka Takamasa and Le Corbusier" and "Introduction to Architecture" (winner of the 2021 Good Design Award's Best 100).

He received the City Planning Society Award at Toshima Ecomusee Town, the Landscaping Society Award at Minami Ikebukuro Park, and the Cultural Honor Award from Toshima Ward in 2020 for its past activities. Liu received her Bachelor degree in Architecture and Master and Doctor degrees in Urban Planning & Design from Tsinghua University. She is Registered City Planner in China, Vice Dean and Tenured Associate Professor of Urban Planning & Design at Tsinghua University School of Architecture, and Managing Chief-Editor of China City Planning Review. She was Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Graduate School of Design Harvard University in 2016, visiting scholar at l’Oservatoir d’Architecture de la Chine Contemporaine in 2000 and 2003, and visiting scholar at UBC Center for Human Settlements in 1995. She works as professor, researcher and city planner and designer, with particular interests on town and rural planning, urban design, urban regeneration, and international comparative studies. She publishes both domestically and overseas and is active in both national and international academic circles. She either chairs or participates both research and practical projects of urban planning and design which cover a number of Chinese cities such as Beijing, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Nantong, Jining, Qufu, and so on, and have been rewarded with either national or ministerial prizes.

Colabolabo provides business support for female entrepreneurs, with more than 3,200 clients all over Japan. It manages a website "Women Presidents.net", where a database of female entrepreneurs is made available to whoever is interested in their businesses. Prior to setting up her own business in 2006, she had over 6 years of experience working for the human resources department of Recruit Co., Ltd., a leading advertising, publishing and HR company in Japan. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the Ochanomizu University, one of the oldest national women's universities in Japan. She is also involved in several committees, including a committee established by the Gender Equality Bureau of the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan. She was selected to represent Japan at the APEC 2011 WES (Women and the Economy Summit) as one of the “Innovators of Japan".
