About Creative Commons (CC)
Since 2007, information in the publicly released GOOD DESIGN AWARD works that have been approved by the award winners is marked with a Creative Commons (CC) license. The information granted a CC license can be reused within the scope and method specified below.
The GOOD DESIGN AWARD works information is based on content provided by the awarded companies and the jury members. This information is not for our exclusive use; rather, it is introduced with the hope that it will contribute to the advancement of design not only in the field of design education but also more broadly in society. Therefore, the Creative Commons licensing system has been adopted. It also clarifies the ownership of copyright on the website’s content.
About the Creative Commons License
Creative Commons is a system based on current copyright laws that allows creators to indicate flexible usage conditions. It has been localized in 38 countries including Japan, following each country’s laws. In Japan, the NPO Creative Commons Japan (CCJP) manages the promotion of CC.
The official website of CCJP describes the “Definition and Philosophy of Creative Commons” as follows:

Definition of Creative Commons
Even without legal or technical expertise, anyone can use this revolutionary licensing system to distribute their original works to the world via the internet, simply by selecting a combination of four simple icons that indicate the desired usage conditions.
Philosophy of Creative Commons
Creative Commons serves as a middle layer between full copyright protection and complete waiver of rights. Specifically, it allows creators to retain their copyrights while granting certain usage rights in advance. By clearly expressing these permissions, CC aims to establish more flexible copyright rules and to support richer information distribution, as well as the development of culture and science & technology.
In addition, the six basic Creative Commons licenses are defined by a combination of the following four conditions:
Attribution | The name of the creator, title of the work, and other relevant information must be indicated. |
NoDerivatives | The work may not be modified. |
NonCommercial | The work may not be used for commercial purposes. |
ShareAlike | Any new works based on the original must be licensed under the same terms. |

About the Use of CC-Licensed Awarded Works Information

For GOOD DESIGN AWARD awarded works information, only the conditions “Attribution” and “NoDerivatives” apply. When reusing award-winning information marked with a CC license, please be sure to fully understand the terms of Creative Commons and strictly comply with both “Attribution” and “NoDerivatives” conditions. Furthermore, the purpose of implementing the Creative Commons license is to promote design. Even if these two conditions are followed, any use that violates public order and morals, damages the honor or reputation of the author, or contradicts the intent or legal framework of the system is strictly prohibited. If such unauthorized use is discovered, the organizer may request deletion or correction. Additionally, although this is not part of the CC terms, the organizer may disclose the example of use. If CC-licensed awarded information is reused, please consult with the organizer in advance.
The Creative Commons license banner links to the “Commons Deed,” which provides a summary of the license terms. Furthermore, the “Commons Deed” links to the full legal text, known as the “Legal Code.” Please make sure you fully understand these contents before using the material.
Please make sure to clearly indicate the following information near the reused content, when reusing the content.
