1,619 Award-winning Works, New “SPECIAL AWARD FOR FUTURE SOCIETY DESIGN” Established; Grand Award, Gold Award, and Other Special Awards Announced
The Japan Institute of Design Promotion (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairperson: Hiroshi Naito) has announced the results of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2025, its flagship program.
The judging committee, composed of leading experts in design-related fields from Japan and abroad, conducted a rigorous evaluation process. Out of 5,225 entries, 1,619 were selected as award-winning works. From among them, the “GOOD DESIGN BEST100,” comprising the top five works from each screening unit, was selected for the first time this year. Furthermore, from 20 works, one selected from each of the 20 screening units, one GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD and 19 GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARDs were determined. In commemoration of the upcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, a new “SPECIAL AWARD FOR FUTURE SOCIETY DESIGN” was established this year, and one entry was selected. Including this, a total of 33 special awards were presented.
The GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD 2025 was selected through screening by the Special Awards Judging Committee, consisting of the Chairperson and Vice Chairpersons of the Judging Committee as well as the leaders of each screening unit, and was awarded to “DLT Timber Temporary Housing.” In addition, public voting will be conducted from November 1 to 3 during the award exhibition period for “Our Favorite G Mark,” which will determine one work from among the 20 Grand Award and Gold Award works. The result will be announced at the Award Ceremony to be held on November 4.
In addition, 11 works were selected for the “GOOD DESIGN LONG LIFE DESIGN AWARD,” which is presented to products that have been continuously supported by people over many years.

GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD Selection Process and Results
During the second screening (July 9 to August 25), the top five entries recommended by the jury members in each of the 20 application categories were selected as the GOOD DESIGN BEST 100.
Following this, at the BEST100 Presentation and Special Award Screening Session held on September 19, one outstanding entry was selected from each category, resulting in 20 GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARDs.
This year’s finalists for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD were the 20 Gold Award works listed above.
A total of 23 jury members, including the Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons and Unit Leaders, participated in the Special Award Screening for the Grand Award, during which presentations were given by all finalists, followed by discussion and voting.
In the initial vote, each jury member cast one ballot, with “Genbe River, a Clear Stream Where Fireflies Dance and Aquatic Flowers Bloom” receiving seven votes, “Ginza Sony Park Project” receiving five votes, and “DLT Timber Temporary Housing” receiving four votes. Thereafter, through further discussion and revoting, the two final Grand Award finalists were narrowed down to the “Genbe River, a Clear Stream Where Fireflies Dance and Aquatic Flowers Bloom” and the “DLT Timber Temporary Housing”. A final deciding vote was then held between the two.
As a result, “DLT Timber Temporary Housing” secured the majority of votes and was selected as the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD.

GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2025
GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2025 will be held as a place to introduce the "good designs of the year" selected through a rigorous and fair screening process and their significance to society at large. GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2025 is one of the largest design events in Japan, where visitors can "understand current design by looking at this. Based on the theme of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2025, "A Small Step, Design Leaps", the exhibition will showcase an overwhelming scale of outstanding products, services, projects, and other designs that have been thought through to determine what is truly needed in today's society.
In addition, a GOOD DESIGN STORE TOKYO by NOHARA pop-up store will open at the same time. Visitors can also buy the latest award-winning products and popular award-winning products.
There will also be an award exhibition of the LONG LIFE DESIGN AWARD, which is given to legends that have been loved by users for many years.
