背景

As a US-trained creative professional with extensive travel experience in Japan rural towns, I see the urgency for the country to shift investments outside of metropolitan cities. The competitive advantage of Japan lies in its craft culture. Riding the wave of experiential tourism boom, we tackle some social challenges of Japan: rapid declining population in rural towns, abandoned real estates, failing apprentice system and craft product market. There is potential to span Japan's impeccable artisanship to global creative industry, in a time when unsustainable, cheap, mass-produced goods are losing momentum in a social-conscious market . This is also a movement that diverts attention and investments to cultural sustainability, when all resources seemingly goes to tech industry in the era.

経緯とその成果

Channel new ideas and bring creative business to lesser-known rural towns. Instigate dialogs between Global Creators and Japan Makers. Investigate meaning of tactility and hand-craft objects for millennial designers where computer-assisted practice is the norm. Raise awareness in cultural sustainability. Taketombo instigate social innovative activities. We generate ideas or review projects from Western artists-designers and build partnership with craft towns and artisans to incubate the project. Projects range from architecture adaptive-reuse design research, art installation, material exploration, product design development, cultural research, academic design research...etc. Our service includes travel curation and workshop facilitation.
