Squama is a programmable physical window/wall that can independently control visibility of its elemental modules. Squama dynamically controls its transparency and simultaneously satisfies openness and privacy when it is used as a wall. It can also control sunlight and shadows, which we call programmable shadows, to create more comfortable space without completely hiding the outer view. This is a design proposal of ''programmable physical architecture'' where the physical feature of architectural elements and facades can be dynamically changed and reprogrammed according to the people's needs.
