The adidas 1 is the world's first 'intelligent shoe', and features the latest in technology. This shoe is capable of automatically adjusting heel cushion pressure to the optimal level for each individual athlete by a three-stage process involving sensing, analyzing, and reacting. In the first stage, the shoe's 'nervous system (magnetic sensing system)' collects about 1,000 bits of data per second and conveys information about the runner's weight, speed and running environment to the shoe's 'brain'. The 'brain' is a microprocessor which analyzes the data and transmits the optimal cushion strength to the shoe's 'muscles', which are a cable system driven by a miniature motor. This motor automatically adjusts the cable length to provide the runner with the optimal level of cushion support.
