1,484 Award-Winning Works; Grand Award, Gold Award, and Other Special Awards Announced
The Japan Institute of Design Promotion (Tokyo; Chairperson: Hiroshi Naito) has announced the results of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2026, its flagship program.
The judging committee, composed of leading experts in design-related fields from Japan and abroad, conducted a rigorous evaluation process. Out of 5,111 entries, 1,484 were selected as award-winning works. From among them, the “GOOD DESIGN BEST 100,” comprising the top five works from each screening unit, was selected. Furthermore, from 20 works, one selected from each of the 20 screening units, one GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD and 19 GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARDs were determined. Including these, a total of 32 special awards were presented.
The GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD 2026 was selected through screening by the Special Awards Judging Committee, consisting of the chairperson and vice chairpersons of the judging committee as well as the leaders of each screening unit, and was awarded to “EAD50,” a drum expansion module with a dedicated microphone. In addition, public voting for “Our Favorite G Mark” will be held from October 31 to November 3 during the award exhibition period to select one work from among the 20 grand award and gold award works. The result will be announced at the award ceremony on November 4.
In addition, 9 works were selected for the “GOOD DESIGN LONG LIFE DESIGN AWARD,” which is presented to products and other designs that have been continuously supported by people over many years.

GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD Selection Process and Results
During the second screening (July 8 to August 24), the top five entries recommended by the jury members in each of the 20 application categories were selected as the GOOD DESIGN BEST 100.
Following this, at the BEST100 Presentation and Special Award Screening Session held on September 17, one outstanding entry was selected from each category, resulting in 20 GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARDs. This year’s finalists for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD were the 20 gold award works listed above.
A total of 24 jury members, including the chairperson, vice chairpersons and unit leaders, participated in the Special Award Screening for the grand award, during which presentations were given by all finalists, followed by discussion and voting.
Through successive rounds of discussion and voting, the grand award finalists were narrowed down to four works: “EAD50,” “Face Recognition Walkthrough Gate,” “Tokiwabashi Bridge,” and “Disaster Relief Store LAWSON.” Another round of voting was then held.
As a result, “EAD50” secured a majority of the votes and was selected as the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD.

GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2026
GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2026 will be held as a place to introduce the "good designs of the year" selected through a rigorous and fair screening process and their significance to society at large. GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2026 is one of the largest design events in Japan, where visitors can "understand current design by looking at this." The exhibition will showcase an overwhelming range of outstanding products, services, projects, and other designs that have been carefully developed to address what is truly needed in today's society.
In addition, a GOOD DESIGN STORE TOKYO by NOHARA pop-up store will open at the same time, where visitors can purchase the latest award-winning products as well as popular past winners. There will also be an exhibition of LONG LIFE DESIGN AWARD winners, celebrating legendary designs that have been loved by users for many years.
