Outline

In response to Hong Kong Arts Centre’s open invitation for community-driven public art, O&O Studio and REhyphenation were commissioned with support from the Urban Renewal Fund. Siu Kai Fong, the art installation, captures personal narratives of the historic district through repurposed furnishings gathered from households and businesses of North Point for visitors to experience a piece of the past.

Evaluation

An art installation in which chairs collected from local residents, businesses and organizations are upcycled and placed in a public space with the floor painted to create a community living room. A customized upcycling method for each chair brings out the expression of each chair rather than a sense of unity. It also seems to embody the diversity of time and people in the community, creating a large public space where residents can feel each other's presence while spending time in their place.
