Outline

In this renovation, we take the concept of using and change the original family living program into an area, welcome people to discuss and exhibit. The rusty and broken parts turned into a possibility which brings lights and greens and becomes a symbol of reborn and vitality. We remained some trace of 1940's parts, people could remind the historical memory, by sitting and have a cup of tea.

Evaluation

This Japanese-style house built in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in the 1940s has been reborn as a small, yet multifunctional gallery space. With the support of Kaohsiung City Government’s Bureau of Cultural Affairs, it has been painstakingly renovated, using as many of the old metal fittings as possible. Among the elements that make a favorable impression is the way in which the dwelling’s original features have been used. For instance, what was once the living room of the family who formerly lived here is now a place to welcome guests.
