Evaluation

This is a botanic art center at a botanic gardens in China, where brick has been used to create a beautiful waterside landscape. Brick was selected as the material because the site was formerly home to a kiln and also because ceramics will be exhibited there. This choice evokes tradition, while achieving a modern design. Both the horizontal lines featuring recurrent arches and vaults inside and out, and the vertical lines of the central tower that serves as an observation platform providing panoramic views over the gardens effectively accentuate these elements and achieve a certain monumental nature reminiscent of Louis Kahn.
