"Ishonomaki KIZUNA Project” is a free community publication for people living in temporary housing in Ishinomaki, Miyagi, an area hit hard by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. It is published every month with a circulation of 6,000 copies. It was launched in June 2016 following the discontinued publication of "Kasetsu Kizuna Shinbun" with the 113th issue since Oct 2011. It carries stories about health care, community-building activities, local events, etc. , aiming at encouraging residents to get on their feet and participate in society. It is delivered by hand by volunteers, who go from door to door to hand the newspaper to residents. This works as mental care for the residents and helps prevent various problems, such as isolation, withdrawal, alcohol abuse and unattended death.
