We renovated 7 machiya (japanese traditional houses) around an old arcade in central Otsu, and repurposed them as scattered-hotels in the town. The 7 machiya are scattered on the old Tokai-do street and an old arcade street which is parallel to old Tokai-do street. Though vacant house have been increasing in numbers, there are still some traditional stores such as a japanese lantern store and a butcher that sells 40-yen-croquette. We are focusing on them to draw interest from tourists. The grand opening is August, 2018. A private viewing in April 2018 saw over 1,000 guests. Shiga prefecture has also announced a concept to make Otsu into the post-town that it once was, following our project. We have also been cooperating with local commercial and industrial businesses.
