This is an apartment building with 96 residential units, facing the canal in the center of Tokyo. The project was aimed for a high-density strategy to accomplish the coexistence of the profitability/lifestyles/structure/townscape on the rare location of the waterside. The removal of some girders is not only a rational structure system but also creates a diversified facade. In addition, inserting spaces with additional values such as two-story-height ceilings and lofts, which are not taken account of the floors area, utilizes the legally restricted size of the area to the fullness and achieves comfort for all the residents. This could be a prototype of a space composition of relatively small dwelling units, and that of a solution to the demands for quality housings in Tokyo.
