We have renovated a 130-year-old house which is standing alongside the Shimanto River, upstream from where depopulation is rapidly advancing. Our concept of the renovation is “The Whole Family's House”, where all of the brothers and their family members who usually live apart come together. The house was maintained through repairs made by the second son who remains in the house alone. The building was tilted to a large extent and it was in a state where essential renovation work was needed. The renovation was done not only based of seismic resistance, durability and residential function, but also based on careful consideration towards leaving a trace of the family's life and so creating a place full of memories.
