"year note" has been the medical text of choice for almost all medical students in Japan for 28 years. Conventional textbooks were extremely thick, extending to 'three phone books' worth for internal medicine, and contained extremely dense text. Their bindings also seemed to exude the impression of "authority". Of course, careful reading of these texts is important, but there were no "essential" texts that contained the salient points in one volume. We edited the information so that it would fit in a single, portable volume, with easy access to necessary information at a glance, and brought it into the world with a youthful, silvery binding. These innovations met the needs of medical students, making this book an indispensable companion to medical students today.
