概要

Woobi Play is an anti-pollution mask for children that filters at least 95% of dangerous airborne particulate matter (PM). The high-performance (HEPA) filter is positioned on the side of the mask, allowing the translucent, medical-grade silicone to reveal the face, rather than hiding it as many other masks on the market do. The mask comes disassembled and with a manual, encouraging kids and parents to put the parts together themselves, piece by piece, to build the finished product.

デザインコンセプト

A sign of its time, safe and fun breathing for kids.

背景

According to a recent Unicef report from 2016, more than 300 million children live in areas with the most toxic levels of outdoor air pollution, six or more times higher than international guidelines. Children are more susceptible to air pollution than adults. Their lungs, brain and immune system are still developing and their respiratory tracts are more permeable. The aim of Woobi is to raise parents awareness, and to help their children develop a new habit of protecting themselves. Airmotion found through their insights study that kids dont really care about air pollution, only the parents are interested in protection. Woobi was designed to involve the children themselves so that the mask would be more interesting to them, and they would therefore be more willing to wear it.

デザイナーの想い

Creating a simple yet unique solution with a compelling functionality that could be operated easily by kids has been the main focus in designing Woobi. This process focused around making the mask appear non-technical, while still performing like a professional mask. The whole psychology of understanding what would appeal to kids and how they would be motivated has been integral to the design. Its a complex product, and making it all seem simple and effortless has been a main challenge in the process. No two faces are the same and Airmotion Laboratories scanned more than 1000 children aged 6-14 to profile their faces. Tests covering overall concept, interaction and fit throughout the design process have provided valuable feedback along the way.

危険な浮遊粒子状物質(PM)から身を守ることの大切さを説く優しい解説書、カラフルなアクセサリー、これらを組み立てる親子での共同作業、オリジナリティあふれる楽しいパッケージ。これらすべてが、厳しい環境の中で生きていかなければならない子供たちの状況に救いを与えている。あえてフィルターを横にずらしたのは、半透明のシリコンにより、子供たち同士が相手の表情を読み取れるようにしたためである。社会的貢献度が高く、且つ隅々にまで配慮の行き届いたデザインが高く評価された。
