- Outline
The origin of Ekoin is that Nenbutsudo was firstly built by the Tokugawa family to mourn for over 100,000 victims of the Great Fire of Meireki. Their idea is to preach the mercy of Amida Buddha to every life even though involved or not. The reconstruction of Nenbutsudo is aimed to keep being a place where people can rely on. For that, open space for exchanges has been expanded by adopting pilotis to the building. Also, a bamboo forest covering a mi-do Hall on the upper level, which was planted as a continuation and expansion of existing bamboo forest, provides comfort to visitors.
