The new Takimi Bridge was re-constructed on the downstream of the Shiraito waterfalls, one of the natural resources that gives Mt. Fuji its natural beauty. Since the bridge is located in, a world cultural heritage, a beauty spot and a natural monument, the construction of the bridge was to induce minimal alteration to existing topography and should have high aesthetics values. Putting into account these requirements and using international design guidelines, a new type of bridge structure with high durability and slender, called “Balanced-flat arch” was proposed.
