A restaurant building was placed on a compact lot of 76 m2. The sky occupancy factor was utilized in a study to determine the maximum volume permitted, resulting in six levels. In response to the desire to lease principally to Japanese restaurant tenants and the restriction regarding the opening ratio for outdoor staircases, we adopted wooden vertical latticework as a facade to offer a traditional Japanese feeling. Coating with traditional Japanese red-ochre paint augmented the durability of the wooden vertical lattice. Latticed shutters finished can render expressions with light and shadows.
