Evaluation

In an unprecedented emergency, what is most important when seeking to make appropriate decisions is obtaining accurate information in a timely fashion. This not-unchallenging task was achieved with decisive speed through a partnership between the Tokyo Metropolitan Government—a huge organization—and Code for Japan. By making the content available as open data and publishing the source code, while reflecting more than 1,000 requests for improvement subsequently submitted from across the globe, the service enabled a variety of entities to apply the same mechanism. We wish to offer high praise for the achievements of this service, which marks the beginning of civic tech.
