Thick growth of weeds at the joint sections of pavement and curbing blocks is becoming a critical problem in road management and local living environment. We developed an effective method to suppress growth of weeds making use of a common property of plants, tropism. In geotropism, a type of tropism, growth directions of stems and roots of a plant are controlled by a plant hormone, called auxin, and gravity. The road joint structures designed by our method based on geotropism make weeds suppress their growth by themselves. Our method can reduce the costs to remove weeds on roads.
