With its reduction in size (1cc) and weight (1.75g), Micra Transcatheter Pacing System (Micra TPS) is the world's smallest pacemaker (as of April 1, 2017). It is a single chamber leadless pacemaker which is implanted in the right ventricle. It is implanted with a catheter into the heart and directly placed in the right ventricular, instead of being implanted under the skin. This eliminates the risks of pocket and lead-related complications. MRI was contraindicated with pacemakers in the past; however, Micra TPS allows patients to be safely scanned using either a 1.5T or 3T full body MRI.
