As a tatami maker with a 120 year history, we wanted to leave the traditional craft of tatami making to future generations. But there has been a decline in the number of modern homes with Japanese tatami mat rooms, and we began to feel uneasy. We thought about how to spread the appeals and benefits of tatami to as many people as possible, and the solution we arrived at was to create accessories using tatami mat straw. The rush used in the raw materials to create tatami have anti-bacterial and deodorant properties. We hope to communicate the benefits of tatami through easily accessible items.
