These signs are a new method of communication design aimed to push citizens and passengers “to see the local region." The Hitachinaka Seaside Railway Minato Line faced closure due to decreasing number of users. Assuming that design could solve this issue, I worked with locals to design platform signages that incorporate historical sites along the railway and regional specialty products. These unique, curiosity-invoking characters gather new users at ten stations while refreshing and creating native identity, and contribute to the rejuvenation of a long-loved railway alongside the locals.
