Outline

“Monyo Waribashi” is a product design project supported by the industry-government-academia group of Yoshino City in Nara Prefecture, known for its production of disposable chopsticks. The project further encourages the usage of domestically produced chopsticks around Japan. We used traditional Japanese “Monyo patterns” that contain wishes. We chose six Monyo for the product; victory, health and longevity, business prosperity, family prosperity, love and safety. Monyo were carved into traditional flat Koban-style chopsticks with a laser-cutter by students from Yoshino High School.
