概要

Vscan Access is a portable ultrasound device designed to help primary health workers assess pregnancy risks early. The Device shall be used by midwives, paramedics, clinical officers and general practitioners to conduct examinations for early detection of potentially life-threatening pregnancy complications. Vscan Access is design is easy to use, portable, easy to clean, rugged & reliable enough for the environment it is intended for. The form factor is soft, modern and depicts the emotion of care to connect better with patients & caregivers.

背景

Many contries still need to reduce pregnancy related mortality, specially in primary care settings. The WHO estimates that 70% of medical equipments designed in developed nations does not work in developing world facilities. To address this, GE sought to think ground up & collected insights from patients, midwives & ministry of health officials to inform the design of the new proposition.

デザインコンセプト

This innovative portable device is designed specially for primary care setting to address major issues of affordability, accessibility & appropriateness.

企画・開発の意義

The intent was to design a simple to use, reliable, accessible & affordable product for primary caregivers (midwives) & their settings where challenges are different with lack of right resources . The device may empower midwives to conduct examinations that may result in early detection of pregnancy complications, may result in reduction in pregnancy related mortality in developing countries.

創意工夫

GE has collaborated with governments, academic researchers & NGO's to assess the maternal health impact of ultrasound use in primary care. The design is based on evidence & insights from the patients & caregivers. It is made suitable & appropriate for users & the conditions it is intended for. The product architecture & form has been made to be simple to use and reliable for rough environment. As the product is targeted for maternal care the form factor is soft, modern & depicts caring emotion to connect better with patients & caregivers. Its premium looks & refined aesthetic details enhances the trust & feeling of clinical accuracy. The clean & handy form with rounded corners is also meant for soft feel when it is next to patient on the bed.

デザイナーの想い

The aim was to create a easy to use, portable, reliable & affordable device for primary setting users (midwives) and rough rural environments. The design has to be durable, suitable to environment it is intended for & appropriate to empower the midwives, and also the product features & form should connect emotionally and functionally with patients & caregivers.

審査委員の評価

従来、超音波診断装置は高画質化、高機能化を競い、価格が高く、サイズも大きなものになっていた。本機種は医療ニーズを的確にとらえ、機能を効果的に絞り込み本体を小型化することで、可搬性向上による医療効果の拡張効果により過去に高い評価を受けた医療機器の後継機である。前機種の特徴であった本体を過度にサイズアップすることなく、ディスプレイを程よく拡大するなどさらに使い勝手を高めており、医療現場でのニーズを的確に反映した優れた製品であるといえる。
