The Ishinomaki City Children’s Community Building Club imagined a Children’s Center to revitalize their town after the destruction of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Between Nov. 2011 and the end 2013, the Club met over 35 times to discuss and plan the Center, often talking with architects as advisors. They built a model, brainstormed zoning, design and location, and held consultations with local children, adults and government staff. The city government and children have co-managed the Center together since the grand opening in Jan. 2014, when Save the Children handed it over to the City.
