Joshu Tomioka Station is a local private railroad station, and the gateway to Tomioka Silk Mill, which has been registered as a World Heritage site. The lightly lifted big roof becomes the gateway to the tourism base of Tomioka City, which creates an open semi-outdoor space as an interchange area for residents. Under the big roof, there is a waiting room and a concourse of a practical size based on the size of the city, as well as an information corner, all of which create comfortable places like a veranda. The building with its newly developed structure of "steel-frame brick masonry" has inherited the spirit of the silk mill to pursue the cutting edge. The unevenly piled up brick walls fulfill the functions necessary for a station building such as benches, bulletin boards and partitions, and the same color bricks continue to the sidewalk, square and parking lot across the premises, which create a station front best suited for welcoming people to the World Heritage city.
