Outline

A multi-purpose stacking chair to be used at gatherings and meeting spaces. It has a mesh seat to disperse body pressure and uses the bending effect of a torsion bar mechanism and the bending of the chair back to provide comfortable seating. Seat can be selected from resin seat line-up depending on various occasions. Forty chairs can be stacked onto the exclusive cart for storage. Moreover, the chair uses recycled materials and all the parts can be separated, changed and recycled to reduce environmental burden and maintain quality. On the assumption that it will be used both in and out of Japan, it has achieved world-class standards of quality and durability, and is very lightweight. The simple chair design is ergonomically based to accommodate various body types and postures and sets a world standard for the next generation.

Evaluation

Stacking chairs used in gatherings and meetings should have these desirable characteristics: they should be easy to store, easy to set up and take down, and they should form a beautifully continuity of line when connected to one another. In addition, of course, they should be comfortable to sit in. We gave high marks to the way in which GAC has met all these conditions and also to the design concept, which includes the use of recycled materials and partial disposal, an indication of GAC's efforts to alleviate their burden on the environment. The mesh sheet and handle integrated with the back of the chair beautifully brings together formative details without impeding the chair's function.
