The concept of universal design (UD), making products easy for all people to use regardless of age, gender, or disability, is being adopted today across a wide range of fields. While the number of people concerned with worsening eyesight increases as society ages, products are decreasing in size, combining multiple functions, and using digital technologies. The Iwata UD font has been developed based on the need to develop text characters that are themselves produced from a UD perspective. This design is based on the four concepts of visibility (characters that can be understood at a glance), legible (not easy to misread), well designed (simple and attractive), and readable (easy to read). This font promises to see a wide range of uses, not just in printed materials and publishing but also in areas such as office equipment, mobile phones, and public facilities.
