This project covers new construction and remodeling of single- and multiple-family residences, mainly in urban areas, through proposing rules for development of building material colors and shapes crossing the boundaries between manufacturers, to improve the psychological quality of living spaces. These development rules cover the following four points: (1) aptness of costs, (2) no excessive design, (3) easy for anybody to use, (4) easy to harmonize. The project has been conducted through the method of having project members establish recommendations for color and shape standards and participating companies manufacture and sell products based on these. While a variety of manufacturers produces a wide range of building materials, standardization or harmonization of their colors and shapes makes it possible to provide living spaces that are highly satisfactory in psychological terms.
