The former Miyagi Baseball Stadium was built in 1950. Rather than simply renovating the existing stadium, we proposed a much more innovative reform of the structure, including the addition of new seats in the infield area along with a variety of other changes to create added value in different parts of the facility. We put our major emphasis on the needs of the spectator, aiming to create a ballpark where the fans can be close to the action and feel as if they are part of the team. In order to upgrade the rooms and facilities used by players and others, these were made part of a separate building. The design and construction process were integrated, utilizing, for example, prefabricated materials in the construction of the stands, and as a result a community-based ballpark that would normally have taken over a year to complete was finished in only 130 days.
