Outline: A new condominium situated in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward. It is the first high-rise condominium in Japan to use wood materials sourced domestically for main structural elements, such as pillars and walls. The use of domestically-produced wooden structural materials in new applications will revolutionize the building industry. It will also contribute to the realization of a recycling-oriented society.

Evaluation

This architecture is highly evaluated in that a mid/large-scale condominium, the most common building in a city, is boldly constructed with a wooden high-rise hybrid structure. Although it is very expensive at present, it must be more valued if a greater portion can be manufactured at a factory and more demand rises, which will result in shorter construction period and less manpower. Natural materials like wood are difficult to use for a condominium because conventional condominiums prefer to have materials of homogeneous quality. This new condominium, however, uses many wooden materials in its interior. Under the concept of wooden structure, this condominium, which defies the common sense associated with a conventional condominium, is very challenging in its structure.
