We greatly appreciate that Muji has brought to fruition a simple, pleasant-looking single-storied house at a low price. Until now, Muji’s houses were two- or three-story buildings, which were mainly designed with urban environments in mind. The Plain House is a one-story home ideal for rural living or for use as a holiday home. While keeping the floor area to a minimum and emphasizing versatility, the designer has devised ways to link the indoor space to the outdoors, which is good to see. The windows slide into the wing walls, enabling the house to be fully opened up, while the extended eaves create a pleasant semi-outdoor space. This design is also perfect for an age in which the corona crisis means that a growing number of people are enjoying outdoor life at home.
