The Showa Blvd. in Oita had problems such as deterioration of sidewalks and footbridge, the narrowness of the pine section along the Castle Park. Also the Blvd. had unique intersection with public squares at the four corners. But pedestrians were not able to enter the squares for thick plantings. Oita Prefecture succeeded in promoting the pedestrian activities by Reborn Project of the boulevard.
