Outline

This is a very sophisticated hand-made fabric technique. A tight and solid undyed cotton is used as the canvas for the drawings. It is then undergone the indigo dying process for a number of times before becoming the table cloth This is the lesson that has been taught from generation to generation for the locals, especially Hmong in Bokeo Province, the North of Laos. Maly Indigo has closely worked with a local family in Bokeo to co-create the patterns on the fabrics which is not very far away from traditional patterns that the locals get used to.

Evaluation

The "Hmong Tribe," who live in Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Southwest China, are known as a tribe who wear colorful clothes and accessories. Their elaborate and geometric batik, used for skirts and other clothes is especially beautiful. Techniques and patterns of their ethnic costumes have been used to transform them into round tablecloths, items which can add beauty to our modern life. The development process from a skirt to a table cloth is interesting, and we expect they aim for further development in the future, which has led to our appreciation.
