The role of housing per se is to enrich clients’ lives. But, with the trend to prioritizing quantity of supply and excessive pursuit of efficiency, builder-client ties are weakening, resulting in standardized construction. EIDAI Academy, comprised of 300 builders in Japan, is actively restoring this relationship. Through participatory/experiential events and maintenance activities, EIDAI gets insight into client needs, then shares know-how so gained via its network. By returning to construction based on client needs, EIDAI provides a strategy to survive competition in a shrinking market.
