Message from Judging Committee Chair(2008/05/08)

The Good Design Awards have embarked toward a new horizon. Since establishment of the program 50 years ago, the range of entries has evolved from personal items to cover entire cities and digital media. With this progress, the definition and role of "design" have also expanded. It is time to renew the definition of "design" and also to reconsider its framework.
This year, the Good Design Awards have undergone significant changes. The subject domains for screening were reorganized to meet the needs of the times. Yet the important elements will never change. Design sustains and enriches many people’s lives, and brightens our society. It is human-centered and points to the future.
The Good Design Awards intend to stand on "the demand side of the near future". That is the message at this time of reorganization. The G Mark selection program will aim to develop a stage that is more stimulating and active than before through its function of judging Good Design.
