2009 Good Design Awards: Entry of Undisclosed Entries


1) Application of Undisclosed Entries

Application Process sets regulation of application for undisclosed entries as follows.

"Subjects eligible for entry are objects or conceptual embodiments close to human activity or in society. It must allow an announcement as a Good Design Award recipient on the Good Design Awards announcement date of October 1, 2009, and it must be available to users for purchase or use by March 31, 2010. If an announcement is not possible then, the announcement can be extended until December 31, 2009."

The applicants cannot apply the entry that does not meet this requirements. If it satisfy the regulations in the Application Process above, the applicants can apply entries even if it is an undisclosed subject at the time of application and screening.

2) Method of the second screening of undisclosed entries


  • The second screening will take place in the "Good Design Expo" where all exhibited entries are opened to public. The second screening of undisclosed entries that cannot be exhibited at the Good Design Expo will be set separately to avoid leakage of confidential information by installing actual entries at the venue.

  • Method of separate screening is planned as follows. Applicants will be informed with details individually.

    - The organizer specifies the venue where confidential information can be secured. The applicants carry in the actual entries to the venue and carry out immediately after the screening.

    - Only if the above screening method is difficult, judges conduct screening at the venue specified by the applicants.

Please avoid presentation by CG or mockup that disables testing operability. The second screening places emphasis on elements such as operability as well as the device's appearance.

3) Subject to the special awards

Special awards winners will be announced on the announcement day of the Good Design Awards winners (October 1).
Consequently, undisclosed entries that the applicants do not agree with disclosing information on the announcement day cannot win special awards in principle.

4) Confidentiality obligation regarding undisclosed entries

The organizer, Judges, and related party are obligated to duty of confidentiality regarding confidential information on undisclosed entries.

5) Screening fees regarding unreleased entries


  • Screening fees for undisclosed entries

    Applicants who have undisclosed entries for screening shall pay a screening fee of 100,000 yen for such a entry, in addition to the regular Second Screening fee.

  • On-site screening fees

    If the screening for undisclosed entries at the venue specified by Judging Committee is difficult, the applicant shall pay 100,000 yen for each entry within Japan or 300,000 yen for each entry outside Japan, in addition to the regular Second Screening fee. Actual out-of-pocket expenses are paid separately in addition for travel and transportation charges of Judging Committee members and attending secretariat.
