Step-by-Step Guide


Step1: Application


  • Confirmation of Company Registration

    When you are applying for the first time to this award, please make your company registration first and acquire your ID and password from login page. After this procedure, you can sign in to your "Company Navigation page" with ID and password from the next time on.
     
    If you have applied to this award before, there is no need to make a new company registration. Referring to the ID and password sent by post-mail, you can sign in to your navigation page. Please check and update your information in "Company Navigation page", such as name of representative or contact person if you applied last year or before. For security reasons, we recommend you a periodic change to your ID/Password. Also, we will bring up your judgment process and results in this page.
  • Making New Registration

    Please make new registration of a subject entry from "Company Navigation Page". After input of basic information, you are able to access "Entry Navigation Page" in the list of "Application List and Status" in "Application List" page on "Company Navigation Page". Please start filling in more detailed information of the subject entry (entries) in this page. Make sure that this is not "Applied" status yet.
  • Inputting Detailed Information

    Please finish filling detailed information of the subject entry (entries) by June 11, 23:59 Japan time. To fill in, move to "Entry Navigation Page" from "Application List" page in the "Company Navigation Page". In this page, you can store (upload) the contents even if you are not finishing filling all the blank boxes. Please fill in "required" items at least. You are allowed to add necessary information during the application period. For the unexpected accidents, we recommend you to create and save the contents inside your PC beforehand, and copy and paste to each entry box.
  • Application Confirmation

    Please complete application confirmation by June 11, 23:59 Japan time by pressing "Apply" button in "Entry Navigation Page". When canceling the subject entry after the registration, please press "Withdraw". Only entries after the application confirmation will be recognized as the entries for the Good Design Awards.
  • Confirming an Application Requirement

    Please confirm if you satisfy an application requirement and if necessary, please add company (companies) as joint applicant(s) from "Confirm & update my company information" in "Company Navigation Page". As for the application requirement, details are provided under Application Process.
  • Sending the "Application Confirmation Form"

    After confirming application of all the subject entries, please print out "Application Confirmation Form" from "Company Navigation Page" and send it to the organizer under hand and seal by postal mail by June 18.
  • Submitting the "Letter of Consent"

    In the case that the applicant is a design company and applies alone, please submit a letter of consent of the principal implementing business. Please send it to the organizer under hand and seal by postal mail by July 23.
  • Payment of First Screening Fee

    Invoice for the first screening fee will be issued and sent after the application deadline. Please make a remittance of the fee by July 10. If the remittance cannot be made by the due date, please make sure to inform us by inquiry form beforehand.

Step2: First Screening


  • First Screening

    1st screening will be conducted from June 12 to July 15, with information submitted from the applicants.
  • Prompt Report of 1st Screening

    Result of 1st screening will be reported on "Company Navigation Page" in July 16. Update of the Navigation Page will be informed by e-mail to contact persons. The 1st screening result notification, the invoice of 2nd screening fee and exhibition fee will be sent by postal mail.
  • Payment of Second Screening Fee and Exhibition Fee

    Please make a remittance of the second screening fee and exhibition fee by August 15. If the remittance cannot be made by the due date, please make sure to inform us by inquiry form beforehand.

Step3: Preparing for Second Screening and the GOOD DESIGN EXPO


  • Confirmation of Information to be Released

    All the subject entries eligible for the second screening except for the subject entries that do not require their publication will be posted on the web site of the Good Design Awards from August 1 to September 3. Please reconfirm the necessary information of the subject entry (entries) on "Company Navigation Page" from July 16, to July 23.
  • Confirm the Application of Exhibition Form in the GOOD DESIGN EXPO

    As for the subject entries eligible for the second screening, please reconfirm the application of exhibition form for GOOD DESIGN EXPO from July 16 to July 23. Details are provided under "Exhibition Information".
  • Requirements of Additional Information and Documents

    We kindly ask for your cooperation in case the Judging committee asks for submitting the instruction documents or the actual subject entry (entries).

Step4: Second Screening and GOOD DESIGN EXPO


  • Transportation of Subject Entries

    Applicants who passed the first screening are required to transport the actual product(s) embodying the subject entry (entries) to Tokyo Big Sight on August 20, and carry out on August 24. Details are provided under "Exhibition Information".
  • Second Screening

    2nd screening takes place privately on August 21 and 22.
  • Presentation Screening

    Some subject entries may be required to make a presentation both in public or private manner upon a request from the Judging Committee.
  • GOOD DESIGN EXPO Open to the Public

    We will open the screening venue to the public as an exhibition event of the GOOD DESIGN EXPO, from August 22 after the 2nd screening, to August 24.
  • Prompt Report of 2nd Screening

    Result of 2nd screening will be reported on "Company Navigation Page" on September 12.

Step5: Preparing for Awards Announcement


  • Finalizing Information for the Public and for the Commendation Certificate

    As for the subject entries that passed second screening, please reconfirm and finalize information of subject entries as they will be publicized on October 8 as well as printed on the commendation certificate. The reconfirmation is available from September 12 until September 22 on "Company Navigation Page".
  • Display of Special Awards

    As for the candidates of Gold Award and the Special Award, we may ask to display the subject entry (entries) to the Special Award/ Gold Award Panel.

Step6: Award Announcement and Promotion


  • Prompt Report of Final Result

    Final results of the second screening is informed on October 8 on the "Company Navigation Page".
  • Awards Announcement

    All the award results, except for the Grand Award, will be announced in the press interview and on the web site of the Good Design Awards on October 8.
  • Notification of Final Result

    Notification of the final results will be sent to all the applicants by post on October 8 with invoice of the yearbook publication fee.
  • Payment of the Yearbook Publication Fee

    Please make a remittance of the yearbook publication fee until November 28. If the remittance cannot be made by that date, please make sure to inform us by inquiry form before the payment due.
  • Good Design PR Campaign

    We will conduct "Good Design Award PR Campaign" from October 8 till November 8. During the campaign period, award-winning companies of 2008 can use G Mark logo for free. Please make PR activities through press releases, newspaper advertisements and the Internet. Usage of the G Mark logo after the campaign period requires application procedure. Details are provided under "G Mark Usage Guide". The guide is also sent to you with final results notification.

Step7: Awards Ceremony, etc.


  • Grand Award Selection and Awards Ceremony

    Awards ceremony takes place on November 6. Commendation certificates will be handed at this venue. For international applicants, the certificates will be sent later as soon as possible by post. Representative of each Special Award winning company will be asked to step up to the stage. Grand Award winner will be elected at the ceremony venue. Good Design Award winners and the members from Judging Committee and Board of Advisors have the votes.
  • Publication of the Yearbook

    "Good Design Awards Yearbook 2008-2009" will be published in late-January, 2009. The yearbook introduces all the awarded subject entries and the screening procedure.

Cautions at process on the Internet


The G-mark site uses technology such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) coded communication, Java Script, and Cookie, so that you can complete your entries securely and smoothly. Before accessing the site, be sure to check your communications environment and your browser settings.

You cannot apply to the Good Design Award online with Internet Explorer for Macintosh. Please use latest version of other browsers for Macintosh.

About SSL

The entry site uses SSL coded communication, which encodes communication between your computer and our database server and allows both parties to send and receive corporate and product information with a high degree of secrecy. Please use a browser compatible with SSL, such as Version 6.0 or higher of Internet Explorer, or version 6.0 or higher of Netscape Navigator. Note that in some cases, the firewall for your company's internal network may prevent communication by SSL. If that is the case, please consult your company's network administrator.

JavaScript and Cookie

At the application pages, Java Script and Cookie is used. Please make sure to set up these "effective."

45 minutes to Automatic Sign-out

In each page, if the state of clicking the button such as "Confirm" and "Register Confirmed Information", or omitting the page change of progressing to other entry pages continues for about 45 minutes, the page will automatically sign out of a server side compulsorily in order to prevent occupancy of the right to access. In this case, it becomes impossible to transmit the contents filled in by the point in time, and an error page is displayed. In order to prevent this, we recommend you to make and save the contents to fill in with word-processing software etc. beforehand, and copy and paste these contents into the each page.
