2008 Good Design Awards: Exhibition Information


The following sets forth information necessary for the exhibition of subject entries at the Good Design Awards Second Screening panel hosted as established by the 2008 Good Design Awards Principal Guidelines. The various sections constituting this information are as follows:

1) Purpose of Exhibition


  • The Good Design Awards Second Screening takes place, as a general rule, with the actual product or embodiment of the subject entry.
    After the Second Screening is concluded, the Organizer will open the venue to the public, and host the 2008 GOOD DESIGN EXPO fair.
  • Based on directions from the Organizer, applicants exhibit their actual products or embodiments of their subject entries. The exhibiting constitutes participation in the GOOD DESIGN EXPO fair.

2) Exhibition Format


  • Content permitted in the exhibition is limited to the actual product or embodiment of a subject entry. Please refer to the Supplemental Notes section regarding subject entries whose actual product or embodiment cannot be exhibited because of physical restrictions or confidentiality issues.
  • Applicants exhibit the actual product or embodiment for each subject entry individually with an Display Package arranged by the Organizer.
    For entries that cannot use an Display Package because of their size or characteristics, the applicant shall apply only for the necessary space and assume responsibility for finishing the installation.
    For applicants with multiple subject entries, an exhibition plan is available in the form of an applicant's booth or stand.
  • Applicants may not enter the screening venue during the screening periods.
  • Applicants shall assume the costs associated with transporting subject entries to (carry-in) and from the venue (carry-out).
  • The Organizer may decide upon, and request changes in the exhibition format of any applicant. Any exhibit deemed by the Organizer as inappropriate for a general public forum will not be disclosed for display at the GOOD DESIGN EXPO fair.

3) Security and Intellectual Property Concerns


  • The Organizer will assume responsibility for security against damage, loss, or theft of subject entries during the Second Screening panel. The Applicant will assume responsibility for the same during the GOOD DESIGN EXPO fair. The Organizer is committed to security of the venue and exhibits during these private and public dates.
  • Prior to any information release made by the Organizer, the Organizer asks for subject entries to file design registrations or the like in order to retain industrial property rights.
  • The GOOD DESIGN EXPO fair is scheduled to receive an exposition designation from the Japan Patent Office related to exemption rules concerning the loss of innovation.

4) Application for Exhibition Space


  • The Organizer notifies the results of the First Screening on July 16. Subject entries passing the First Screening are eligible for exhibiting.
  • Through the Good Design Awards application website, applicants apply for the space required for exhibiting and the exhibition format (July 16 to 23).
  • The Organizer verifies the exhibited contents of each applicant with this application and issues invoices.
  • Based on the invoices, applicants pay the expenses associated with the exhibition by August 15.
  • On August 20, applicants transport subject entries to the venue and exhibit them at the locations designated by the Organizer. Outbound shipping and carrying out are conducted on August 24.

5) Supplemental Notes


  • Exhibiting Undisclosed Subject Entries

    Undisclosed subject entries may apply, as long as they satisfy the conditions listed in the Principal Guidelines. For undisclosed subject entries that ask for highly confidential screening, exhibiting is not made according to the method set forth in this Exhibition Information. For details regarding undisclosed subject entries, please refer to the Important Notices provided in the Application Process.
  • Subject Entries Physically Impossible to Exhibit as Actual Product or Embodiment

    For subject entries difficult to transport to the Second Screening venue, such as architected structures, the exhibit shall comprise of profiling illustrative panels (B1 size, portrait, description as applicant desires) in lieu of the actual product or embodiment. The exhibition arrangements are the same as for actual products.
