2008 Good Design Awards: Entry of Undisclosed Subject Entries

1) Application of Undisclosed Subject Entries

Application Process sets regulation of application for undisclosed subject entries as follows.

"Subjects eligible for entry are objects or conceptual embodiments close to human activity or in society, and must allow an announcement as a Good Design Award recipient on the Good Design Awards announcement date of October 8, 2008. If an announcement is not possible then, the announcement can be extended until December 31, 2008."

Therefore the applicants cannot apply the subject entry that the applicants cannot publicize by 8 October or 31 December. The applicants can apply undisclosed subject entries that satisfy the regulations in the Application Process above.

2) Method of the second screening of undisclosed subject entries

  • The second screening will take place in the "GOOD DESIGN EXPO" where all exhibited entries are opened to public.

  • The second screening of undisclosed subject entries that cannot be exhibited at the GOOD DESIGN EXPO will be set separately to avoid leakage of confidential information by installing actual subject entries at the venue.

  • If the applicants wish exhibition and disclosure of undisclosed subject entries at the GOOD DESIGN EXPO, actual subject entries will be carried in/out to the venue as in cases of other general entries.

3) Separate screening of undisclosed subject entries

Method of separate screening is planned as follows. Applicants will be informed with details.

- The organizer specifies the venue where confidential information can be secured. The applicants carry in the actual subject entries to the venue and carry out immediately after the screening.

- Only if the above screening method is difficult, judges conduct screening at the venue specified by the applicants.

Please avoid presentation by CG or mockup that disables testing operability. From the previous year's result of screening with actual subject entries, juries tend to place emphasis on elements such as operability as well as the device's appearance.

4) Subject to the special awards

Special awards winners will be announced on the announcement day of the Good Design Awards winners (October 8).
Consequently, undisclosed subject entries that the applicants do not agree with disclosing information on the announcement day cannot win special awards in principle.

5) Confidentiality obligation regarding undisclosed subject entries

The organizer, Judges, and related party are obligated to duty of confidentiality regarding nondisclosure information on undisclosed subject entries and information on undisclosed subject entries to be disclosed in the future.

6) Screening fees regarding unreleased subject entries

  • Screening fees for undisclosed subject entries

Applicants who have undisclosed subject entries for screening shall pay a screening fee of 100,000 yen for such a subject entry, in addition to the regular Second Screening fee.
  • On-site screening fees

If the screening for undisclosed entries at the venue specified by Judging Committee is difficult due to an avoidable reason, on-site screening will be conducted at the venue specified by the applicant. In such case, the applicant shall pay 100,000 yen for each subject entry within Japan or 300,000 yen for each subject entry outside Japan, in addition to the regular Second Screening fee. Actual out-of-pocket expenses are paid separately in addition for travel and transportation charges of Judging Committee members and attending secretariat.
