The Good Design Selection System (G-Mark system), the antecedent to the Good Design Award, was established in 1957 by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and had selected more than 32,000 products to bear the G-Mark 50 years. This structure was reborn in 1998, its 42nd year, as the Good Design Award sponsored by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization.
