Outline: To help reduce plastic waste, we offer a free water refilling service at MUJI stores with dispensers, which use tap water that has been filtered. Encouraging the use of water dispensers, the refillable bottle has a flat shape and a convenient size that is easy to carry. The app allows to see nearby water supply spots, the amount of water supplied and corresponding waste reduction.

Evaluation

While it has become natural to purchase a plastic bottle of mineral water despite our tap water being drinkable, the company, in the course of switching from plastic bottles to aluminum cans for drinks to be sold, recognized the essence of why such switching is necessary and raised a question whether mineral water should be sold, which led to this initiative. We would like to highly appreciate the company's efforts of designing and realizing this initiative, which may lose sales but increase consumers' motivation for visiting stores.
