Outline: Sony announced VISION-S, an initiative to contribute to the evolution of mobility through technology and creativity. We designed and developed a prototype vehicle that is designed to provide the next generation of mobility experiences, from safety and reliability to entertainment. We will continue to work with our partner companies to create new mobility experiences.

Evaluation

This project exploring the future of mobility blends a number of Sony’s business assets, including semiconductors, electronics, mobile communications, MaaS, entertainment, and finance. Rather than novelty or uniqueness, the primary focus in developing the prototype was on safety and specifications, with the aim of creating something capable of driving on the public highway without further modification. Its launch at CES made a huge splash worldwide, generating the biggest buzz that Sony has ever seen. We hope that Sony will achieve further advances in safety through sensing technologies, ongoing software updates, AI-based mobility optimization and energy efficiency improvements, and tie-ups with insurers, thereby proposing and implementing a vision for the society of the future.
