The spike-less CFRTP sprinting shoe was developed to reduce the energy loss during sprinting by eliminating the spike-pins, in spite of the fact that a sprinting shoe generally has several metal spike-pins on the bottom of the sole for the athletes to provide traction and to efficiently transmit their power to the ground. This state-of-the-art technology will open the future of sprinting shoes.

Evaluation

The honeycomb structure of the soles is not only strong and durable, but also has a well-honed beauty with nothing superfluous. When faced with the task of developing new sprint shoes, everyone tends to adopt the spike-pin approach. As such, it is wonderful to see that Asics’ development team has refused to be bound by stereotypes and has successfully risen to the challenge of developing sprint shoes without spike-pins. It is clear to see that not only athletes, but also the development team are, by ensuring a high level of grip, competing to achieve records in which every thousandth of a second matters. The shoes’ superiority has apparently been proven with data from their use in practice and one can tell that a considerable amount of trial and error has gone into their design. These shoes truly are infused with the hopes of the designers, researchers, and developers.
