デザインコンセプト

The design philosophy of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliances Division is 'Thoughtful Explorer'. The design story concept of WW9000 is 'Change Everything but Keep the Heart'.

背景

In the past, marketers used design as a means of PR. They made up exaggerated or false stories, irrespective of the original intent of a design, and communicated the stories to consumers. Our main objective was to resolve this issue and to deliver 'true design value' to consumers.

We sought to develop a 'design communication process', and to deliver an undistorted design philosophy and story that ranges from design to product planning, marketing, and consumers.

企画・開発の意義

Washing machines have considerably evolved. For example, many buttons have been removed, doors have become bigger, and the machines remember user habits. In 1874, William Blackstone created the very first washing machine for his beloved wife. We wanted to reflect such consideration for others and to communicate the value of design, which was completed through 'consideration for users'.

創意工夫

'Consideration for others', which is embodied in the washing machine design, involves having the washing machine interact with the user with a personality, rather than simply serving as a machine. Various considerations were made for the user in the design, including the Stepping Forward Design, which takes a step towards the user; the Interface, where the user's habits are remembered and the course is automatically set; the raised position of the drum; and the larger door. We thus moved forward with design storytelling with focus on 'how meaningful' rather than 'how much more'.
