デザインコンセプト

This exhibition is designed to tie in the relationship between each work, as well as between the works and audience, by incorporating various spatial features such as gaps, boundaries and openness.

背景

Amid efficient procedures in an exhibition planning, a gallery space is often presented with a central direction for audience to follow. In case of sculpture exhibitions, it is common to see lack of interaction between the works and the space as they are often displayed on plinths of similar heights, creating a collective outlook.

デザイナーの想い

Via different choices of suggested directions throughout the space, the audience is encouraged to explore their own way around the landscapes of the exhibition in conformity with how one feels to be led. As a result the work, the space, as well as the audience interact and create new relationships between each other to provide an multidimensional experience.

企画・開発の意義

Instead of only focusing on the contents, it is important to consider the ways of displaying the contents, as well as the different aspects needed within an exhibition experience. That way, the audience will be able to interact with and perceive the works in a different light and be presented with a new cultural experience.

創意工夫

Choi Man Lin's extensive collection of works spanning over almost 60 years deals with recurring themes of humanity and one's will to survive, which are derived from the artist's direct experience of the korean War in his childhood. the audience is placed within the various periods of the artist's path of life, in which they become incorporated in the exhibition experience as moving objects to give life to the stillness of the sculptures. The transition in the mood of each period can be grasped through the brightness of the lighting, and one is able to detect the contrast by looking into other sections through the gaps - the visual access that enables the audience to preveiw the previous/ next room.
