XIENCE is a drug-eluting stent used to treat chest pain caused by clogging of arteries in the heart. XIENCE is implanted to hold open the clogged artery, restore blood flow, and release a drug that prevents re-clogging of the vessel by inhibiting excessive tissue growth. To achieve flexibility and conform to the natural curvature of the coronary anatomy, XIENCE’s pattern consists of corrugated rings connected longitudinally by flexible non-linear links. XIENCE is also coated with a sophisticated polymer, which is highly biocompatible and controls the elution of the drug.
